What to include.
A first email doesn't need to be long — five lines is enough. The more specific the message, the more useful the initial reply will be. Worth including:
- Who you are / what company you represent
- A short description of the matter (one or two sentences)
- Timing — is it urgent, and when do you need an answer
- Whether you have relevant documents to attach
- Your preferred response channel — email, phone, Zoom
The first conversation is always commitment-free. In some cases,
the initial answer may be that this firm is not the right fit —
in which case you'll receive a direct referral to a colleague
better suited to the matter.
